Cairn in Devon
The Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks website includes information about the Mis Tor Farm Embanked Cairn Circle. Described as the "base of ancient tumulus, about 20m in diameter, may have formed a bound of the ancient boundary between Lydford and Walkhampton." The cairn sits 400 metres north-west of Mis Tor Farm.
Further details can be found in the Pastscape Record for this site, Monument Number 439712, which adds that that in 1977 this was found to be "a well preserved cairn located within the Prison Farm on the crest of a short ridge running south-east from Little Mis Tor. The site possesses magnificent views over West Devon and Cornwall. Overall the circular feature measures 20.5m in diameter and is a maximum of 0.9m high. It takes the form of a raised platform, slightly domed in the centre, approximately 0.5m above current ground level; it is enclosed by an unbroken bank which is 2.0m wide and stands 0.4m high above the platform. The bank contains several large boulders and slabs, especially on the south-west where they appear to form an interior facing. There is no sign of antiquarian delvings or wallstone quarrying."
The cairn is also recorded as MD15372 (Cairn 400 metres north-west of Mis Tor Farm) on the Devon and Dartmoor HER/.
