Warwickshire County Council and the ADS are pleased to announce the online launch of an index to the Warwickshire Sites. The Warwickshire SMR is a database containing information about archaeological sites and findspots in the county of Warwickshire. The record holds information about sites and finds covering a huge time span, from the Palaeolithic to the 20th century. A wide variety of monuments are recorded, from prehistoric barrows to medieval settlements to World War II pillboxes.

Warwickshire's best-known monuments are included in the record, such as Warwick and Kenilworth Castles, sections of the Fosse Way and Watling Street Roman roads, and the English Civil War battlefield at Edgehill. Furthermore, the record includes information about some of the best ridge and furrow earthworks in the country and the oldest man-made object found in England, the Waverley Wood handaxe.

The Warwickshire Sites and Monuments Record is a service provided by the Libraries, Heritage and Trading Standards Department of Warwickshire County Council. It is part of the Archaeological Information and Advice Group of the Museum Field Services. The Record encompasses information on around 10,000 sites and finds in Warwickshire. One strength of the SMR is the link between monuments and 18,000 sources of information that have been consulted during the compilation of the Record.
