TV and RadioChannel 4's Time Team have spent three days examining a 4,000 years old cemetery in Leven, a site which experts say is "of outstanding national significance."
Time Team have been working closely with Fife Council archaeologist, Douglas Spiers, who made the initial discovery earlier this year. Nine burial cists, have been found, ranging from adults to a child aged about nine.
A single cist was unearthed by ploughing in the area in 1944 but being wartime no action was taken and the site largely forgotten. One of the unusual aspects of the site is that, in the past, cists have been found singly and not in such large groups, suggesting this was an important local farmstead.
Time Team will be broadcasting the Fife dig in February 2003.
