Following on from the success of the 'Stone in Wales' conference that was held at the National Museum in April 2002 The Welsh Stone Forum is to be set up.

The Forum, described as a loose organisation of people who are interested in any aspects of stone usage in Wales, is hoped to be of interest to masons, wallers, builders, geologists, archaeologists, historians and workers in heritage, architects, planners, specifiers, quarry people, geographers, and all people with a curiosity about the uses of stone by people today and in the past.

The Forum expects to run regular meetings, fieldtrips to sites of interest, produce a newsletter and to act as a meeting place for people of common interest.

A committee is currently being assembled to run the not-for-profit Forum and a constitution is being drafted. Eventually it is hoped that the Forum will be launched as a membership society with a small annual subscription.

The anticipated date for the inaugural meeting is next spring.
