Fabio Silva writes: I wanted to let you know about a new educational initiative that I think will be of genuine interest to many of you. The Skyscape Academy is launching a structured programme in archaeoastronomy and skyscape archaeology, focused on understanding how ancient monuments and landscapes relate to the sky through careful method, context, and critical thinking. I'm delighted to offer an extra discount to Megalithic Portal readers and contributors.The Skyscape Academy offers:
- a full, in-depth programme for those who want systematic training;
- individual courses for those who prefer to begin more gradually
As a gesture to The Megalithic Portal community, The Skyscape Academy is offering a special discount on the regular price of the full programme for subscribers who use the voucher code:
PORTAL26
This gives you an additional £349 off the current 'early bird' discount, making for a total discount of £750 !
This code is valid for the full programme only, as the individual courses already have generous early-bird discounts.
You can explore the Academy and course options here: skyscape.academy
I know many of you are already deeply engaged with ancient monuments and landscapes, and this is a good opportunity to develop a more rigorous understanding of the sky’s role within them.
Best wishes,
Fabio Silva
Headteacher, The Skyscape Academy
Bio: Fabio is astronomer turned archaeologist, his interests lie with how societies have perceived their environment (skyscape and landscape) and used that to time and adjust social, productive and magico-religious behaviours. His research is global, but in this field he has largely focused on Portugal and the United Kingdom (including Stonehenge). Fabio has been teaching archaeoastronomy / skyscape archaeology at university level for 15 years.
During this time he also published dozens of research papers and edited volumes and co-founded the Journal of Skyscape Archaeology. His “outstanding contributions” to the fields of cultural astronomy and archaeoastronomy have led to him receiving the Carlos Jaschek Award from the European Society for Astronomy in Culture in 2016.
Fabio is a Visiting Research Fellow at Bournemouth University, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and runs Stone x Sky a consultancy focused on skyscape archaeology activities.
The course will also be tutored by Dr Erica Ellingson, who has degrees at MIT and the University of Arizona and for several decades has been a professor of astrophysics at the University of Colorado,
