Your readers may be interested in the experiment being conducted by my good friend John Hill MA (Archaeology). We will be laying out the ground plan of Stonehenge on a Sports Field in Allerton, Liverpool just before Summer Solstice 2008.
This is to prove that the site can be laid out using only a shadow stick and a rope, using fingers and toes for counting. No astronomy, no Euclidean geometry.
To prove how simple it is to lay out the ground plan to within a few inches of accuracy, pupils of Northcote Primary School are going to be demonstrating the technique.
Please come along and find out.
