How people lived in prehistoric times fascinates the public and this stamp issue explores this subject. The stamps show iconic sites as well as some of the most exceptional artefacts, and overlays illustrations to show how people lived and worked at these sites and used the objects. Overall, the stamps give a timeline across thousands of years of history, from a glimpse of Stone Age ritual of 11,000 years ago, to the Iron Age of some 300 BC.

Printed in horizontal pairs as listed below;
Battersea Shield, Skara Brae Village, 1st Class
Star Carr Head Dress, Maiden Castle Hill Fort, £1.05
Avebury Stone Circles, Drumbrest Horns, £1.33
Grime’s Graves Flint Mines, Mold Cape, £1.52

The First Day Cover

The First Day Cover, designed by Paul Felton, have the Mint Stamps and a special First Day of Issue postmark. Choose from Tallents House, Edinburgh depicting an arrowhead or Avebury, Marlborough showing a trowel. Avebury is the largest prehistoric ceremonial monument in Britain. The information card included was designed by Paul Felton and written by Timothy Darvill OBE, Professor of Archaeology in the Faculty of Science and Technology at Bournemouth University. It features a photograph and a brief description of each site or artefact.

The Presentation Pack

The presentation pack provides an overview of the prehistory of Britain, written by Timothy Darvill OBE, and details about each of the ancient sites and artefacts depicted on the stamps, all eight are included.

Also included in this issue are the Stamp Souvenir and eight Postcards. Stamp Design by True North

26th October marked 100 years since Stonehenge was left to the nation. Postal Museum Assistant Curator Georgina explores some wonderful designs of this world famous monument.

Buckingham Covers are Celebrating Ancient Britain by producing limited edition first day covers using the upcoming release of Royal Mail stamps.

Eight new stamps in se-tenant pairs;
1st Class Pair ‘Battersea Shield & ‘Skara Brae’
£1.05 Pair ‘Maiden Castle Hill Fort’ & ‘Star Carr Headdress’
£1.33 Pair ‘Avebury Stone Circle’ & ‘Drumbest Horns’
£1.52 Pair ‘Grime’s Graves’ & ‘Mold Cape’
Stamps Issue Date Tuesday 17th January 2017

The cover design features another piece of Ancient Britain, the Callanish Stones
FDC designer Joanne Down, Buckingham Covers
Stamps produced by Royal Mail, cover exclusive to Buckingham Covers

The First Day Cover with the full-set of eights stamps and postmarked (date stamped) in Callanish on the first day the stamps go on sale is available to order at the RRP of £19.95 by calling 01303 278 137 and quoting BC552.

Alternatively there is the option to have a single stamp on the cover which has a RRP of £10.95, this option is normally best when there is a stamp local to your business or publication i.e Battersea Shield, Battersea or Avebury Stone Circle, Wiltshire.
