Nebra skydisk
Nebra skydisk submitted by Andy B : As of March 2002 The State Museum for Prehistory (Landesmuseum für Vorgeschichte) in Halle, Germany, has been in possession of a bronze disc, which may prove to be one of the most significant finds in early European history. It has a diameter of 32 cm and a weight of 2 kg. The disc has an official name:"Himmelsscheibe von Nebra" and was found here. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Tonight (Thursday, 29 January,(9:00-9:50pm GMT)) on BBC2, Horizon reveals the mysteries of the Bronze Age Star Disk, discovered by grave robbers in a tomb in Germany. The Nebra skydisk combines sophisticated depictions of the stars with religious imagery, and surpasses anything found in the supposedly more advanced ancient societies of Egypt and Greece.

It is more impressive if turned 270 degrees from the photo shown. turned so you see the sun during an eclipse and a solar flare, the moon near the horizon, the curve at the bottom is the boat and the large curve to the right is the sail for reference.

Miranda Aldhouse Green was seen describing the ancient religion suggested by the disk on the Horizon programme. We have her book, Celtic Goddesses: Warriors, Virgins and Mothers in our online shop.

A lunar calendar interpreted by a well known expert on an engraved bone discovered in s/w France was dated at 34,000 - 32,,000 years old. Archaeoastronomy came to Britain by the Mesolithic after the last ice age, artefacts discovered in s/w Leicestershire can be seen on my web site that have been checked out over the last few years. put burbage heritage and tourism group in the "google" u/k search engine. Arthur, Burbage, Leicestershire.
