Technology from the Stone Age will come under the spotlight at an archaeological event in Plymouth later this month.Professional and amateur archaeologists are expected to attend the Lithic Artefact Identification Day at Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery on Saturday, February 17.
The event, organised by Plymouth and District Archaeological Society, will focus on stone tools of the South West.
Talks and demonstrations will be aimed at archaeologists and museum staff, but will also be of interest to the general public, who are welcome to attend.
Visitors will be able to listen to stone tool experts Dr Rob Hosfield, from the Palaeolithic Rivers of South West Britain Project (PRoSWeB), and Dr Jenni Chambers, from the National Ice Age Network (NIAN).
Two duplicate sessions will be held from 10.15am to 12.45pm and 1.30pm to 4pm.
Admission to each half day session is free, but booking is essential due to limited space and numbers.
As well as listening to the talks and demonstrations, visitors will be able to ask questions and bring in any objects that they think may relate to the Palaeolithic period for identification.
Fiona Pitt, keeper of human history at the museum, said: "PRoSWeB and NIAN are both committed to investigating the archaeological evidence left by some of the country's earliest inhabitants during the Palaeolithic period.
"We're very lucky that Rob Hosfield and Jenni Chambers can join us to give us the benefit of their expertise."
A selection of genuine and replica artefacts will be on display at the event, including some from the museum and art gallery's own collections.
