BBC One -Sunday 21st March, 7.00 - 8.00pm. In the Bible, God tells Noah he has seven days to build an ark and load a pair of every species of animal before a great flood engulfs the world. It is widely regarded as a myth, but could it actually be true? In Noah's Ark, Jeremy Bowen searches through ancient history for traces of the life and times of the man who inspired the story.

Using state-of-the-art computer generated graphics and dramatic reconstructions, the programme re-creates how Noah's ark could have looked, tests if it was possible for the animals to have boarded two by two, explores geological evidence for a worldwide flood and searches for the remains of the ark itself.

Archaeological evidence does suggest that the story could actually be a simpler tale based on real historical figures and events. Clay tablets discovered in Iraq reveal a story that is remarkably similar to that of Noah in the Bible. Several epics tell of a Sumerian King who survived a massive flood in Mesopotamia. The story is supported by geological evidence for flooding in the area around 5,000 years ago.

how would 30 million animals fit onto a ship smaller than the titanic, anyhow?

Having watched this programme with increasing despair I would ask Jeremy Bowen whether he would reconsider his views in the light of the vast amount of evidence for the Flood having been caused by change of axis of the Earth. Wven to me this illustrates the strong possibility of a world wide flood as the oceans "slopped" out of their historical basins.

For anyone who's interested in the historical aspect, try "The Epic of Gilgamesh" in Penguin Classics.
Personally I thought we had gone beyond religious dogma.Archeologists recognise this as the precurser to the story.
There is also a Greek Noah by the name of Deucalion.

The church`s research shows that God made the world, the sun and the moon, and us 4004 years ago???. So how could we here, have people making flint time measuring artefacts etc 9,000 years ago at least. The oldest man made tools in this area now in Warwick Museum are 500,000 years old. Arthur, Burbage, Leicestershire.
