Rocking Stone, Lugar, Ayrshire submitted by Ian Carballo : ?c of a little known Stone Circle near the village of Lugar in Ayrshire. The stone in the centre rests on two stones and is locally known as the "Rocking Stone" as it is said that it was at one time to have been finely balanced that it could "rock". It is also known as the Lamagee or Lamargle stone. I have also attached a modified pic to show the circle a little better. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Can anyone shed any light on this 'little known stone circle'. I can't find it in the Canmore database... There are now 266 images in the Gallery, and I've got the thumbnails working - take a look.

Hi Andy , I camped there for an evening by the rivers confluence in Lugar , just next to the " rocking stone" in a lovely couples back garden is a stone circle .
The small circle has a stone avenue leading to it , and it would appear to be in honour of a single dwelling site, with an unmistakable stone seat in roughly the middle of the circle that would have been the house , hope this helps .
Vegan Stephen.

This is in woodland off preserve bare. On an interesting note, there is evidence of ancient mounds and stepping at brooms bare on outskirts of village.

Hello, we don't know, we're hoping someone local might be able to look for it and tell us.

Hi, I will have a look. Have a fair idea as the bulk of the village has Victorian ruins. E.g. there used to be a furnace chemical works railway and six streets which are no longer here. Thanks.

Did you find it?, I grew up in Lugar, it's up just past the old police station next to the wee water that runs into the Lugar, I used to love climbing on it
