Champ des Roches submitted by thecaptain : Champ des Roches / Cimitière des Druides, Pléslin-Trigavou. This year (2005), the “Fête des Megalithes” will happen on Saturday July 16th (Vote or comment on this photo)
I was in Champ des Roches / Cimitière des Druides, Pléslin-Trigavou last week. While there I learned of their “Fête des Megalithes” held each year, which this year is 16th July. I took a photo of an advertising board, so have a look at this for more details.

I thought you would be interested to know of this, and perhaps even visit if you are in the St Malo/Dinan area.

Just to the north of the stones is an open field with various structures within it, which is used for a festival each year to celebrate the stones. It’s been happening longer than anyone can tell, on or around the Fete St Pierre. This year (2005), the “Fête des Megalithes” will happen on Saturday July 16th, and there will be a big feast, bands playing, dancing and fireworks.

Within this festival ground, there is a large gravel circle, with 8 telegraph poles arranged around the outside, and then a further 4 at the cardinal points positioned outside them. Various other poles are dotted about, some with white painted bottoms, some with black. I like to think it is for some ancient dancing and festivity, but my sister told me it was probably for a large tent. Surely any tent would come with its own poles !

I have to say I dont know much of the details of the event, and exactly how the stones are included, but its obviously more than just the local village fete.

    I lived in Pleslin-Trigavou for six years when I was younger and my dad designed the poster that is posted above! Once a year there's a huge festival in the field like you described. It celebrates the stones and the druids. There are workshops like face painting and walking on stilts or making woven bracken headbands throughout the festival. The large circle that you described is used for bretagne dancing and everybody, young and old gets involved with the dancing. There is a band at the head of the circle too. The stones are included in a sort of play that is performed every year. My dad is involved in the Fete by making huge models of monsters for these plays. He's made a ten foot paper mache dragon before, and a ten foot paper mache giant. He stands inside them and acts out in the play. There is traditional bretagne music playing in the background while to the play is going on and it's narrated, everyone will get involved in this and it happens in the trees and the stones. The Fete des Megalithes is a very strong memory of my childhood! :)
