Nicki was of course drawn to work in Orkney because of the heritage of the area. Megalithic Portal readers may have seen Nicki's 2102 Ancient Places calendar featuring standing stones and stone circles from around Scotland.
She told us about her trip in February last year: ”My visit was really inspirational and fuelled my most prolific period of work to date, producing over 30 paintings. I’m absolutely delighted to be able to bring some of this work back to Orkney - it feels like the circle is complete. I’m looking forward to see what Orcadians make of the work".
"I hope I’ve captured something of their beautiful, powerful and enchanting home. Painting iconic sites such as the Ring of Brodgar and Stenness Stones from life was an artistic as well as a technical challenge - I had to chase canvasses across fields, which has certainly added vigour and life to my paintings!”
The gallery on Bridge Street is welcoming all to an opening event on Saturday 10th March, 12-2pm when Nicki will there be to discuss her work.
Nicki currently has work on display at Inchmore Gallery, Inverness and Timespan Museum and Arts Centre in Helmsdale, Sutherland. She has work in private collections in the UK, Europe and Canada. Her website is www.nicki-paints.co.uk. See more of her artwork in our gallery and see if you can spot Nicki herself in a muddy Orkney February.
