Talk by Gail Stoten, Senior Research Officer, Cotswold Archaeology to Cirencester Archaeological & Historical Society about the recent surveys at Salmonsbury Camps commissioned by its new owners, the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust. These have revealed further evidence of the Neolithic causewayed enclosure suspected to be present, as well as considering the origins of the Iron Age site. 19 March 2008 Mosaics and Other Animals: Domestic Art in the Roman Cotswolds
Cotswold Archaeology Annual Public Lecture presented by Professor Roger Ling of Manchester University. The lecture will look at the Roman mosaics of the Cotswolds, with particular reference to the so-called Corinium School of mosaicists and its taste for compositions of Orpheus charming birds and beasts. Why were such subjects chosen? And what were their decorative surroundings (painted walls, textiles and furnishings)? 7:30pm. Bingham Hall, Cirencester.
