Neolithic and Bronze AgeA 3,000-year-old bronze axe discovered by a diver off the Dorset coastline has excited archaeologists. The artefact, recently found in Poole Harbour by diver Philip Butterworth, is believed to date back to 1000 to 800BC - the late Bronze Age.The axe has now been declared to the Receiver of Wrecks, which acts for the Crown, as required by law.
Experts from Bournemouth University will now carry out tests on it to gather more historical information.
Mr Butterworth has agreed the axe should be donated to Poole Museums, where it will eventually go on display to the public.
