In March this year the Radio Times asked its readers to nominate their favourite ancient monuments. The results will be shown in a programme on Channel 5 tonight (Wednesday 2nd July) at 9pm GMT. Sites covered include the Cerne Abbas Giant, Hadrian's Wall and Skara Brae in the Orkneys.

Dear Sirs,

This was a very interesting programme with good commentaries from Barry Cunliffe etc. Two incongruities were the intrusive synthetic bongos struggling with some totally misunderstood latin american rhythms whilst the camera roamed around some idyllic peaceful scene, the other being the suave but unenlightened Loyd Grossman who contributed nothing to the proceedings other than a spurious English accent; his inappropriately sugared curries aren’t very good, either.

Otherwise, the programme was unblemished

A bit of a dissapointment all round really.
Silbury at number 11 yet Roman stuff in the top 10? hm...
Stonehenge (The Callanish of the south) at number 1, no suprise there.
