Stonehenge. submitted by WiltshirePM : Summer Solstice 2003 (Vote or comment on this photo)
Apologies for the delay in deciding the winners of our Summer Solstice 2003 photo competition, I know it's a huge cliche to say in these circumstances that the quality of entries was so high, making judging very hard, but it's true! We had 76 entries and I know many thousands of people have enjoyed browsing the online photographic gallery you helped create. In fact the extra interest has pushed us through the two millionth page-view, so thanks very much for that. So in return, as there were so many entries, I've decided to extend the prizes to four in total. So without further waffling, here are the winners.

First Prize £30 of books from our online shop
Stonehenge Summer Solstice 2003 no 002 by Wiltshire PM (Chris Colley)
This clasic photo was a big hit with our online voters, Chris also submitted a number of other excellent photos and deserves first prize for his efforts.

Second Prize £15 of books from our online shop
Sunset and Silbury Spider from West Kennet Long Barrow by Lisa_Fryer Difficult to choose a favourite out of these two - my sort of photos, with an original touch.

Third Prize £10 of books from our online shop
Midsummer Festival Sunset by marq007 (Marq English of http://www.mevfilms.co.uk )
Marq is an up-and coming film director, and he's frozen time in this photo to capture the wonder of the solstice

Fourth runners-up £10 of books from our online shop
Blue Sky, St. Colmac's, Isle of Bute by RMG
Awesome use of colour. This one deserves to be made into a huge poster and stared at all day long instead of doing any work.

Congratulations winners, please let me know which books you'd like and they will be yours (assuming the titles haven't sold out). Well done to everyone else, whose photos will stay on display in the Megalithic Portal, where in a few weeks we'll move them into the most appropriate geographic sections in the eGallery.

Cheers,
Andy
