Hambledon Hill north long barrow
Hambledon Hill north long barrow submitted by dooclay : long Barrow view from the SW (Vote or comment on this photo)
Long barrow on the northern spur of Hambledon Hill, located within the iron-age hillfort.

The barrow is 66 metres long, slightly decreasing in height and width towards its northern end. The V-shaped notch that bisects the barrow mound is probably a result of antiquarian digging. There are traces of straight flanking ditches.

This long barrow and the smaller long barrow to the south of the nearby causewayed enclosure were both known by the name "The Giant's Grave" by the end of the 19th century. More details are available from the English Heritage monument information page.

On Environment Agency lidar (grey icon next to CamRA) this appears as a narrow NNW-SSE feature with a vague side ditch to west. In the central part of the spectacular Hambledon Hill hillfort that is heaving with hut circles
