I remembered reading about this stone somewhere, so as I was passing, I went for a look. It is a fairly big lump of quartz, just over a metre tall and one metre wide, standing at the side of the lane.
There are a couple of other large stones nearby, just over the hedge, and it is thought by some that these stones may once have been the remains of a chamber tomb, and that this might also explain the name, from the celtic 'cnoc'.
From Fowler, MJ "The Standing Stones of Exmoor" Proceedings of the Somerset Archaeology and Natural History Society 132 (1988) Standing stone c1.3m high immediately S of the road. Used as a boundary stone to define the Brompton Regis, Nettlecombe and Old Cleeve parish boundaries.
From Eardley-Wilmot, H 'The Naked Boy - a reappraisal' Exmoor Review 38 (1997) 41-2 in HER files The other stones are probably not associated and the stone is likely to be prehistoric. It is sited at the stream head of the R Tone. The name may derive from the British 'Hill of Cattle'.
Note: Information and pictures of this little known, but intriguingly named standing stone now here.
