Round Barrow on top of the Brendon Hills in Somerset.

Off the B3190 on the road to Clatworthy Reservoir. About 200mtrs from the main road on the right and maybe 30 - 40mtrs in to the field. This round barrow is surrounded by trees and presents a lovely secluded situation. No problem with trespass here, there is a public footpath through the field!

Pastscape monument no. 188439.

From Proceedings of the Somerset Archaeology and Natural History Society Trevelyan, W 1904 "Huish Champflower Barrow" vol 49, 190.

Barrow 23 paces diameter and 5.5ft high. Excavated by Sir W Trevelyan who drove two trenches across it at right angles with inconclusive results: encircling depression was not a ditch as previously thought. Outside this was a bank which appeared to have been cut away vertically on its outer slope and faced round outside by a stone wall surmounted by earth bank. Not certain whether this was continuous. No relics found although some stones up to 2ft high were laid bare. Black masses near the summit indicated beacon fires.
