The remains of the 84ft cairn of Cors y Gedol lie on the slopes of Moelfre. Little remains of the burial chamber itself apart from a capstone leaning against the cairn and a single standing stone to the east. A similar stone stands at the northern end with another fallen one further north. The site was sketched by William Stukeley in 1766.

Additional Information submitted by Drew Parsons in September 2010:
Access to this site is 800 metres south of the centre of Dyffryn Ardudwy village. Turn left (east) at the Ffordd Gors gate house and drive uphill for almost 2 kilometres following the road around Cors y Gedol House then zig zagging then turning sharp right at the farm. A car park (£1.00 in September 2010) is 200 metres up the lane on the right just before the gate across the road. From the car park turn right (south) and follow the lane for 275 metres and where it bends away from the wall you find the remains of the site with its large capstone resting at an angle on some uprights with its base on the ground.

There are quite a few piles of stones around the immediate area which must belong to the originally 25 metre long cairn. Its a lovely place to visit and well worth the effort to find. On the way back there are the remains of another site called "Cors-y-Gedol Settlement". When you reach the gated road turn east to reach the site which is 100 metres east and just on the south side of the paddock wall.

Cors y Gedol
Cors y Gedol submitted by w650marion : I have 34 years of photographs of this site, I suppose it still tales a nice photo at sunset despite the obvious fact that this Scheduled Monument has been turned into a ?play shelter? in the past couple of months. I have contacted CADW as they have an online form for reporting unauthorised alterations to scheduled monuments in their care. (1 comment - Vote or comment on this photo)

Cors y Gedol
Cors y Gedol submitted by w650marion : Words fail me, it's a scheduled monument. Lots of new big and little stones (without lichen spots) have been added in the last couple of months in order to turn it into a little house or shelter. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Cors y Gedol submitted by w650marion : Looking over the capstone to Moelfre. This pleasing alignment has been commented on by Angie and Peter (pab) previously! And also by the authors of the "Prehistoric Funerary and Ritual Sites Survey:Meirionnydd" (2000) which also says - "Cors y Gedol, is oriented slightly more north of east than the rest and this gives it a striking alignment exactly on the hill of Moelfre" (1 comment)

Cors Y Gedol Field System
Cors Y Gedol Field System submitted by w650marion : The giant oval low enclosure in the field system, probably medieval in date, but overlying prehistoric structures. A hut circle is under the southern end but it’s difficult to photograph.

Cors Y Gedol 2003 dowsing plan submitted by AngieLake : Cors Y Gedol - one of my favourite sites - on the hill above Dyffryn Ardudwy, dowsed in 2003. On my first visit, I remember asking in the little shop how to find the Dyffryn Ardudwy site and following the lady's instructions, only to find myself up here (I'd driven up the lane to a car park at the end, not far from here.) Again, I asked the rods to show me the processional route enacted at the t... (3 comments)
