Portal Tomb in Gwynedd

An enormous capstone rests propped against an upright stone, with a wall surrounding it. This site can be driven to, with a 1:25000 map and determined attitude. Fantastic views also surround.

Bron y Foel Isaf
Bron y Foel Isaf submitted by pab : Capstone, described by COFLEIN as measuring 2.7m by 2.1m and varying in thickness from 0.2m to 0.45m. The COFLEIN entry also suggests that the spread of stones indicates 'a collapsed Neolithic chambered tomb, comprising a cairn .... roughly 21m east-west by 12m, with the remains of a megalithic chamber at its eastern end. Later field walls now cut through the site.

bron y foel isaf submitted by JohnnyP : Although damaged it's well worth a visit. Very easy site to reach. Go north on A496 from Dyffryn Ardudwy, turn right after hotel, up hill for 2km at the crossroads take the right hand road to Bron Y Foel. Take a right just before the farm tomb is in roadside wall, 150m on the right. The last 1/2km or so involves opening & closing a number of gates.

Bron y Foel Isaf submitted by TimPrevett : This is the view of the dolmen that greets you as you arrive by car (or foot!) from the narrow winding lanes with gates to open and shut en route.
