Lundy Settlement
Lundy Settlement submitted by Firewater : There are a number of field boundaries still in place and the foundations of a collection of hut circles. This is one of them. If you look carefully on the horizon at the extreme right of this photo you might also spot a Bronze Age burial mound. (Vote or comment on this photo)
At the extreme north end of Lundy Island is a prehistoric settlement believed to date from around 1000 BC.

Lundy Settlement submitted by Bladup : The prehistoric settlement at SS13524671, The cairn that isn't a cairn (It's outcrops with turf on) is visible top left, I wonder if the folks in the settlement thought it was old burial mound, It certainly looks like one! (Vote or comment on this photo)

Lundy Settlement
Lundy Settlement submitted by Bladup : This mound at SS13374665 looks like a prominent cairn but on closer inspection it looks to be outcrops with some turf on them, This really makes it look cairn like from all around, It makes you wonder if the prehistoric/medieval folk living in the very nearby settlement thought of it (wrongly) as a ancient burial mound! Hey maybe i'm wrong and it is one! (Vote or comment on this photo)

Lundy Settlement
Lundy Settlement submitted by Bladup : This site at SS13424671 has certainly confused people over the years, Nobody seems to be able to work out whether it's the remains of a hut, cairn or millstone quarry (or a combination of them over the years), Your guess is as good as theirs!

I grew up in Braunton, 3 miles from the coast at Saunton Sands, and Lundy was a constant view as we cycled around to the beaches up there in North Devon [inc Croyde and Down End].
We used to have Lundy stamps and Lundy coins, though never used them, and I've no idea where they went after my parents sold the shop and moved to their new house in the village.

I never did get to visit the island, believe it or not! About 35 years ago, while living in S.Devon, my younger son and I camped at Croyde and drove to Ilfracombe to catch the boat to Lundy, only to find that they weren't taking day-trippers as the tide would be wrong for leaving later.
