markj99 visited on 9th Sep 2022 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 4 Access: 3 I parked at the Temple/A30 Junction to visit Trehudtreth Downs via Greenbarrow Downs. There are multiple sites to visit in this area. Trehudreth Downs C Stone Setting is located c. 40 yards E of Trehudreth Downs W Cairn. The stone is obscured by a gorse bush as viewed from the cairn. The three stone appear to form a shallow arc. It is an intriguing site prompting more questions than answers.

TheCaptain visited on 18th Jun 2022 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 3 Access: 3 Further south can be seen another standing stone at the top of the hill, which to get to means passing over a shaped stoney area, perhaps cairns, perhaps some long fallen buildings. The big stone stands proudly, a bit taller than myself. Near to it are two other similar stones, now prone on the ground making a short row of three.

SandyG visited on 24th Feb 2018 - their rating: Cond: 2 Amb: 5 Access: 3 Car parking is available at SX 12639 73865. Access from the A30 is probably no longer possible following road improvements.

A stone setting on Trehudreth Downs, just to the north of the A30 near the western edge of the Bodmin Moor high plateau. Its to the south of the stone row and both of the individual standing stones. (Lots more information on our page, and see the nearby sites list on our page for the other sites) Best not to visit from the A30, take the small roads to Newton Downs on the north side, and head across the moor to the south.

Update August 2019: This stone setting is featured on the Stone Rows of Great Britain website - see their entry for the Trehudreth Downs stone setting, which includes a description, photographs, a plan of the stone setting and its associated features, plus a discussion as to identification as a stone alignment.

This alignment also has a record on the Cornwall and Scilly HER: HER No. 3618 (TREHUDRETH DOWNS - Bronze Age stone setting). More information can also be found on Pastscape Monument No. 433914.

Although once possible to park beside the A30 and walk northwards across the moor, since the A30 has been "improved" this is no longer a good idea, if indeed possible! For a proper exploration of the down, either park at the picnic area on the westward carriageway, then take your life in your hands to cross the busy dual carriageway and fences, or much better, take the small roads to Newton Downs on the north side, and head across the moor to the south.

Trehudreth Downs C submitted by SandyG : The nearby cairn at SX 12995 72947 and Brown Gelly are both at the limit of visibility from this setting of stones. View from south west (Scale 1m).

Trehudreth Downs C
Trehudreth Downs C submitted by SandyG : Brown Gelly forms a visual focus for these stones. The stone beside the ranging rod is situated close to the cairn and measures 0.87m long by 0.38m wide and 0.52m high. View from the west (Scale 1m).

Trehudreth Downs C
Trehudreth Downs C submitted by SandyG : The three large stones and cairn beyond. View from the east (Scale 1m). The nearest stone measures 1.83m long, 0.64m wide and stands up to 0.52m high. The middle stone is 1.68m long, 0.57m wide and 0.66m high. This stone is not completely recumbent, but leans very heavily to the north indicating that its socket was at the southern end of the stone. The third stone stands 1.56m high and is 0.43m ...

Trehudreth Downs C
Trehudreth Downs C submitted by SandyG : Looking east along the stone setting. It may be significant that Brown Gelly is prominent on the skyline. Indeed it is likely that the hill with its cairns would have been framed by the stones when they were all standing. Closer to home a cairn at SX 12995 72947 is also obvious on the skyline (Scale 1m).
