TheCaptain visited on 11th Jun 2022 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 4 Access: 3 Parked at the rest area beside the A30 near Temple and walked southwest across the moor to exploor Cardinham Moor stone row. Pass beside the large pond, no doubt some mining remnant, then can see a stone standing up on the hillside. Once up there a few more come into sight. Its not straight, is it !! I follow it south to a large leaning pillar, which I later see described as Stone 1, the southern end. However, I see another stone standing over on the slopes of St Bellarmin's Tor, so went for a look, where I found not only the standing stone, but also couple more, in as good a line as the rest of the row. They also show up on the detailed OS maps (about SX 131 712). Back to the car then go for a couple of halves at the Blisland Inn.

SandyG visited on 26th Jun 2017 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 4 Access: 3 Car parking is available at SX 13235 72552. From here walk south across the moorland to the row.

Cardinham Moor row
Cardinham Moor row submitted by TheCaptain : Cardinham Moor row stone 4 as per the published plan. Looking south, stones 1 and 3 can be seen. Also the further stone up on the hillside in the original photo (Vote or comment on this photo)
Approximately 380 metre long stone row on the slopes of Colvannick Tor and Cardinham Moor, to the south of the A30 near the western edge of the high Bodmin Moor plateau.

The row runs in a SE to NW alignment, from SX12817189 to SX12997155. The stones are on average more than a metre tall, and are spaced at about 14 metres from each other. The largest stones are at the southern end.

Update October 2019: This alignment is featured on the Stone Rows of Great Britain website - see their entry for Colvannick Tor (Cardinham Moor), which includes a description, photographs of the alignment and the individual stones, a plan of the row, access information and other online resources for more information.

The SRoGB also includes photographs of the alignment illustrating the sinuous nature of the row with its significant shifts in orientation.

The row is also recorded as Pastscape Monument No. 1012593 and as HER No. 1647 (CARDINHAM MOOR - Neolithic stone alignment, Bronze Age stone alignment) on the Cornwall and Scilly HER.

Note: Pictures from a sunny clear day now added. Is the supposed southern end stone really the southern end?

"Colvannick" is Cornish for "erect penis" - probably named after the slanting menhir in the stone row.

But is what is described here as Stone 1 really the southern end? I found a couple more further to the south, in as good a line as the rest of the row (its not straight, is it!). They also show up on the detailed OS maps (about SX 131 712).
