The Rocky Valley Labyrinths by Abegael Saward
Originally published in Caerdroia 32 (2001), p.21-27

The two small labyrinth petroglyphs at Rocky Valley in Cornwall, SW England, have never been securely allocated to a particular period. These finely executed examples of the classical labyrinth motif have been commented on, but never seriously studied by academics, since the official announcement of their discovery in the pages of “The Illustrated London News” of 1954.

More recently they have found dubious fame among members of the “New Age” ovement, and other mystically inclined writers. The carvings were actually found in 1948 by a local man, Mr. S.J. Madge, who wrote a guidebook on the area. The book suggests some interesting walks along coastal paths, the investigation of which no doubt led the author to discover the carvings.

Rocky Valley, near Tintagel, Cornwall is under the hammer.

Anyone with a spare 65,000 quid (guide price) can grab themselves a couple of Labyrinth carvings (Bronze age?), 7 acres of lovely Cornish countryside, and a derelict mill and cottage. Bargain!

The website says:-
"Bronze age site of National Importance in a picturesque combe only 200yard from the Atlantic Ocean. Close to the site of the former corn mill and Miller's cottage are 2 Magnificent Bronze age stone carving dating 1400-1800 BC. Auction 11 July."

Any of you folks out there with the readies that'd like to buy this place, check out http://www.stags.co.uk/search/page1.php. click on 'Area 8', and tick the box 'Building/s for conversion', then hit search. It's the last one.
