I have visited· I would like to visit

TheCaptain visited on 18th Sep 2020 - their rating: Cond: 2 Amb: 3 Access: 3 Making it over the northern wall into the area where the forest has recently been cleared, and look for the next "Cairn" marked on my map. Even with gps I struggle to find what could be considered to be a cairn, although there were several contenders. I suspect that what I found as a single standing stone was its last remains.

Bellever Tor 2
Bellever Tor 2 submitted by AngieLake : This is a possible candidate for the 'circle' at SW of Bellever Tor. It's hard to tell, but this looked as if it was placed upright deliberately, and probably part of a cairn circle or hut circle. 10 Sept 09. (Vote or comment on this photo)
This encircled cairn is recorded as Pastscape Monument No. 442635 and is one of two adjacent monuments scheduled as Historic England List ID 1018508 (the other being the Bellever Tor Cairn One - see nearby sites below). Historic England tells us this cairn forms part of the outlying part of a cairn cemetery.

The cairn also features on the Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW) website - see their entry for the Bellever Tor (SW) Encircled Cairn. PDW classifies this as an encircled cairn, and adds a quotation from J.R. Turner: "(this) cairn, it does not appear to have been excavated, although there is a slight disturbance at the top centre where large granite stones are bared. At the north west extreme are two stones, the positions of which indicate this being part of the retaining circle, no others remain. Height 0.8m, diameter 5.0m".

Bellever Tor 2
Bellever Tor 2 submitted by Bladup : Bellever Tor 2, I like Martin found these couple of standing stones at the site of the Cairn marked on maps, The Standing stones in the photo could be two sidestones of a Cist and there is also a possible small Cist on the very nearby exposed Slab as well (Vote or comment on this photo)

Bellever Tor 2 submitted by TheCaptain : Even with gps I struggled to find what could be considered to be a cairn, although there were several bushy contenders. I suspect that what I found as a couple of side set slabs were its last remains, although there was an interesting bare slab with what looked like some form of construction by it.
