Don't make the same mistake l made and forget the map, its only by chance and being 150 meters from the wall that l found this little gem. The Kist and retaining circle are in a poor state with only two sides of the Kist remaining with the capstone nowhere to be seen. There are only six stones l counted to the retaining circle.
This site is featured on the Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW) website - see their entry for Black Newtake (C) No. 3 Ring Setting Cairn and Cist. PDW describes the cairn as being 7.4m in diameter.
The cairn and cist is also recorded as and scheduled as Pastscape Monument No. 442654, where it is described as a "cairn with cist and kerb circle", adding: "Only two stones remains of the cist on the South and East sides. The depth of the cist is 0.65m to the top of the stone. Nine stones, seven standing and two leaning, from a retaining circle. The height of the mound is 0.2m".
