Langen Dolmen
Langen Dolmen submitted by Martin_L : The reconstructed chamber viewed from the West. March 2010 (Vote or comment on this photo)
Reconstruction out of stones remaining from a larger megalithic tomb.

These site is situated in a small park area surrounded by houses right in the city of Langen just north of Bremerhaven. It has its own little street named „Am Dolmen“.

According to Krause's and Schoetensack's research in 1894 [1] these are the remains of a chambered tomb. In 1849 a barrow named „Ritzerberg“ was removed and the chamber was found and destroyed except for these 5 stones. They also reported, that in 1884 the tomb was partly rebuilt as the capstone was fallen and some orthostats were out of place then. Hence what we see today is far from being true to original. Therefore Sprockhoff and Sophus Müller refused to except it as a megalithic tomb (without a proof from excavation). Anyway it is mentioned in Sprockhoff's „Atlas der Megalithgräber“.
Nevertheless it is a very nice view and looks like a typical dolmen now (although it is not). Most probably only one of the 4 uprights is in situ.
