Wehden Steingrab
Wehden Steingrab submitted by Martin_L : The remains of the chamber viewed from the North-East. 2008 (Vote or comment on this photo)
Inside a hollowed out round barrow, remains of a 3 capstone passage grave are partly visible. The damaged barrow has a diameter of approximately 15m and is still up to 2,5m high.

The chamber is orientated nearly East-West. Originally it had 10 orthostats [1]: 4 orthostats on each long-side and one orthostat on each narrow side. The entrance was located between orthostats S2 (counting from West) and S3 . Two orthostats of the lateral passage were preserved when Sprockhoff et al. examined the site (1967). Nowadays (2008 and 2009) these passage orthostats are not visible as they probably became covered by earth and leaves. At least the three chamber capstones and one passage capstone are robbed, as well as the eastern chamber end stone and orthostats N3, N4 and S4. The remaining orthostats are in situ, but deeply embedded into the eroded earthwork. Sprockhoff assumed an original clear length of 4,5m. The clear width is 1,7m in the West and nearly 2m at chambers' center.

Access remarks (last visit in 2009):
It is a 400m walk from Spaden-Wehden road. The use of narrow road Maibrückenweg leading along to the West of the site is strictly limited to residents! The site is not signposted and wellies were partly useful. By the time of my last visit in 2009 it was possible to follow a track left from a forest work vehicle upslope.
