Runestone in Aust-Agder
This small runestone is located inside the old cemetery at the old Årdal stone church from 1687. The stone was found in 1881 close by the church and it was replaced inside the newer cemetery. It is located just a few metres from the stone fence surrounding the cemetery.
The stone is believed to be from 1050-1100. It is 1.05 metres in height, around 60cm wide and around 10cm wide. It has the shape of a square shaped standing slab. Some of the runic inscription has been eroded away over the years and the text that is possible to interpret it translated to: "God save NN's Soul." The name of the deceased is not possible to read and the inscription is barely visible today.
