The area occasionally floods from the nearby loch. Stones/shingle from Atlantic beach encroach on the circle.
Description by neiltonoman: I'm not sure how many are aware of the stone circle near the village of Bru(e) on Lewis in the Western Isles. I found it by accident one day...looking out of the bus window after a fruitless trek out to see the Shawbost circle (couldn't find it!).
It's in a stunning setting near to Loch Mor Bharabhais right by the sea. It is a ring of 9 stones. There are possibly more as the centre of the circle is flooded, but you can make out smaller stones under the water.
To find the circle, the village of Bru is on the A858 about 12-13 miles North west of Stornoway (grid reference NB339495). It's a single track road up to the village then you need to go through a gate and follow the edge of the fenced field (the sea will be on your left) after about 300yds you will see the circle. The area undulates quite a bit so don't worry if you can't see it at first...it will appear...as if by magic!
A word of caution...locals may tell you that there is no stone circle..presumably they don't want loads of sightseers mobbing the area. I've never seen the circle mentioned in any books and people I've spoken to about Lewis don't seem to know it either.
It really is a magical spot...especially IF the sun comes out!
