TheCaptain visited on 2nd Aug 2024 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 4 Access: 2 Yes Tor is looking good to the north, and it's easily reached, with it's trig point atop a nice rocky outcrop, and although windy, the weather seems to be improving. Now to find the way down, and it's through rough slopes to the west with no semblance of a path. Just below the summit there is a large ring of stones, the messed about remains of a large cairn with massive stony banks. I didn't spend much time investigating, as by now I just wanted to get down from up here.

Two cairns at the top of Yes Tor on Dartmoor, the western one is massive and now looks like a huge ring cairn (it's not).

Pastscape Monument No. 440858 says Cairn 1 at SX 57959020. A large gutted cairn 25.0m by 27.0m in diameter and 0.8m in height. The central excavation is approximately 12.0m across and extends to 0.5m below the natural ground level. In the base of the hollow and on its south side are three partly buried slabs each about 1.7m long, 0.2m thick and more than 0.5m wide, which look like the displaced remains of a former cist.

Cairn 2 at SX 58049016. On the top of the flat outcrop of Yes Tor and piled against the west side is an amorphous mass of stones representing a ruined cairn. The patch of stones on the top is more or less 14.0m across and 0.3 m high and the piling against the outcrop is 2.3m high.

Update August 2019:
Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW) includes two separate records for these cairns:
Cairn 1 at SX 57955 90210: Yes Tor W Cairn. This cairn also has an entry on the Dartmoor and Devon HER: MDV4813 (Western of two round Prehistoric Cairns on summit of Yes Tor, Okehampton Hamlets), and is scheduled as Historic England List ID 1010595;

Cairn 2 at SX 58044 90185: Yes Tor E Cairn. This also has an entry on the Devon & Dartmoor HER: MDC4814 (Eastern of two round Prehistoric Cairns on summit of Yes Tor, Okehampton Hamlets), and is scheduled as Historic England List ID 1010596.
