Site Type: Cairn
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 7th Mar 2022. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 5 Access 2
Corndon Hill 3 submitted by TimPrevett on 30th Dec 2004. The third cairn on top of Corndon Hill, looking to Corndon Hill 4 and the north east, Midwinter Solstice 2004.
Many of the cairns show signs of interference and digging into; about five such 'holes', three very sizeable, are within this cairn.
View to the north east.

Corndon Hill 4
Date Added: 7th Mar 2022
Site Type: Cairn
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 7th Mar 2022. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 5 Access 2
Corndon Hill 4 submitted by TimPrevett on 30th Dec 2004. The most north eastern cairn on top of Corndon Hill, Midwinter Solstice 2004. Corndon Hill 3, left, and Corndon Hill 2, top right are also visible.
The cairns are substantial, and writing as one who has walked miles to see much lesser cairns, this hilltop is a worthy visit.
My friend, 'Wintertrees', helps gave a sense of scale.

Crisp big blue sky on Midwinter Solstice 2004. Made me feel very euphoric; wonderful day for visiting this location.

Site Type: Hillfort
Country: Wales (Powys)

Breiddin Hillfort submitted by TimPrevett on 24th May 2004. From the left Breiddin hill (also spellt Breidden) with New Pieces, centre and Moel y Golfa, right. Viewed from the south.
The hillfort on Breiddin hill made national news in July 2000 when the culmination of a decade of diligent deforestation showed the remains of this settlement, hidden for over 1500 years.
At well over 1000 feet above central eastern Powys (formerly Montgomeryshire), not far from the Shropshire border, the fort has a panoramic position. As one would expect, the extremel...

View of the Ménec alignements as they were in summer 1987, when you could walk amongst them before they were fenced off, and with an awful lot of erosion going on around them.

You'd be forgiven for thinking this is a dolmen, and it is locally listed as such, but Burl sets you right. These stones were originally a passage grave with an earth mound on top

Petit Mont submitted by AlexHunger on 20th Dec 2004. Petit Mont in Arzon, dating to about 4600 BCE at the earliest, is one of the most significant Cairns in Britany, but unfortunately one of the most brutaly vandalized. In 1942, German troops built a bunker and Flak emplacement into the South East Corner of the cairn, which compeltely destroyed one of the chambers and caused the collapse of the second one pictured above, which has since been restored. The megalithic entrance is sought to be an addition from Gallo-Roman times. All pictures have be...
