Hampson submitted by bat400 on 16th Apr 2007. Nodena Head Effigy Pot. Considered one of the finest examples of Nodena ceramics. The depiction may be of a dead warrior. Difficult to say if the markings are a realistic depiction of tattooing, paint, or scarification, or perhaps only symbolic. Note the bird decoration around one eye of the figure.

Saint-Michel tumulus (on the left in the picture) overlooks the Carnac stones, behind it the steeples of the Carnac churches rise into the sky. Then there's the contribution of our times: a wisely protected landscape and...the tarmacked road, I suppose.

The 65-ft high "chief's mound" at the Moundville, Alabama complex. There is a person walking up the ramp of this 900-year old mound to give a size scale.
