Hypogee du Castelet submitted by thecaptain on 25th Apr 2007. Just inside the trench is a carved entrance stone.
When I was here in September 2005, it was unbearably mosquito infested and I couldn’t get away quick enough.

It has been dated to the middle of the 5th millenium BC, and as such is the oldest dated construction of all the Atlantic facing lands.

Tumulus de la Boixe B submitted by thecaptain on 4th Jul 2005. In this region to the north of Angoulême are many, many megalithic remains, most of which are almost totally unknown.
This is one of the known sites, the well restored and truly lovely Tumulus de la Boixe, well worth a visit.

Allée couverte de la Bellée submitted by binardino on 11th May 2006. Located in a private hunting wood, this passage grave is wonderful, especially the death divinity on the right stone of the entrance. Wonderful, you have an entrance hole and a capstone over the entrance the rest of capstones have disapeared. around 10 meters long and 1,5 wide.

Kerbourg Dolmen 1 submitted by AlexHunger on 3rd Jun 2005. Very pretty 7 Meters long, 3 Meters wide downward slopping Allee Couverte, pointing South East. It has 4 large capstones. The rear appears to have a medium size chamber, while the rest appears to be the passage leading to it. It probably once had a tumulus. Saint-Lyphard.

Grotte de Pech-Merle submitted by thecaptain on 14th Nov 2008. The entrance area to this fantastic cave, which I would thoroughly encourage anybody to visit.
One of the oak trees here (with the white paint) has one of its roots hanging down into the cave, which can be seen looking like a hairy stalactite.

Peyrefit Dolmen

Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Midi:Lot (46))
Visited: Yes on 15th Nov 2014. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 5 Access 4
Peyrefit dolmen submitted by ocdolmen on 1st Jul 2007. Peyrefit's dolmen is, for me, one of the most beautiful dolmens of the department of the Lot.
Most impressive is the very important thickness of the table in limestone, 1 metre which is in fact the thickest in the region of Quercy.
A big cup is engraved on the top of the capstone.
In the same area, we can also see the very beautiful dolmen of Artillou.

One of the nicest and more imposant dolmen of Lot.
The capstone is broken in two parts but still in connection : 4.80 m long x 3.20 m wide and 0.35 m thick.
Localisation marked on french IGN map.
GPS : 336 m - 0398 963 - 4912 497.
Discovery in 1967 in the tumulus of several little wisigothic tombs.

Dolmen de Pech-Lapeyre
Date Added: 1st Nov 2014
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Midi:Lot (46))
Visited: Would like to visit

Dolmen de Pech-Lapeyre submitted by greywether on 4th Jul 2005. This is a photo of a dolmen known in the Lot Inventory as Lac d'Auris. It was signposted from the centre of Limogne-en-Quercy but, I think, simply as "Dolmen". Anyway, the notable thing about Lac d'Auris is the thickness of the capstone - almost 1m and weighing 17 tons. Apparently there is a quarry 300m away with a hole the size of the capstone.

Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: France (Midi:Lot (46))
Visited: Yes on 12th Nov 2014. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 4 Access 5

Belinac Menhir submitted by MichelDRN on 20th Oct 2005. I suggest to rename Livernon Menhir as Belinac Menhir, its local name.
From Livernon (Lot, 46), heading SE towards the road joining Cahors and Figeac towns, a sign indicates Belinac Menhir on the right side. 600 meters and this outstanding monolith appears.
It is 3.50 meters high, 0.40 m wide, and large from 1.50m (base), to 1.90 m (middle) and 1.00m (top).

La Pierre Martine submitted by greywether on 4th Jul 2005. In an area where all the dolmens tend to look the same, this one does have a USP in that it is the largest dolmen in Lot. 7.1x2.3m capstone weighing 20 tons. Shame about the concrete supports at each end of it.
