"The Stiperstones" is the name for a hill on the far west reaches of Shropshire, well into The Welsh Marches, overlooking the Welsh border. It is the second highest hill in Shropshire, affording superb views in all directions, and having several bronze age cairns along its ridge. The photo doesn't really show it, but the guide talked us through the progressive layers into the seam the slaves were quarrying.

Taken this morning towards the end of a great dawn walk organised by the National Trust around the 'Stonehenge Landscape', with Rangers helping to identify the magical bird song and interpret the sights on a circuit from Woodhenge.
