Up to 1870, there were 48 menhirs on different lines from the Pierre Meslière to l'etranglard, the other side or the Loire valley.
This point is corresponding to the maximum point where the dynamic tide of the sea is going up (not the salt tide).
By the way on IX century, the Viking built there base camp in St Florent le Vieil (4 km from here) because it was the maximum they can reach with sea tide.
