Log Text: When travelling to South Uist, An Carra is a must visit site. Stoneybridge Water Treatment Works has an access road off the A865 c. 600 yards before reaching Stoneybride, a small village in the middle of South Uist. There is room to park opposite the access road. Walk 0.5 miles up the road and the massive stone will appear on the L.

Log Text: Altnacealgach Cairn is accessible from Altnacealgach Motel if you have walking boots or wellies as it situated on a rough moorland slope. The c. 0.5 mile return trip is more than compensated by a heather clad cairn with a 45 degree arc of exposed stones in the SE.

Log Text: I saw Altigoukie Burn Cairn on OS Mapping, however, actually reaching the cairn was no picnic. The cairn is a green spot in open moorland, accessed via a muddy track through Barlure farm. Wellies and GPS Navigation are required to follow my route on Altigoukie Burn Cairn and Burnt Mound.

Log Text: If you are going to visit Altigoukie Burn Cairn it is possible to visit Altigoukie Burn Burnt Mound. The grassy mound on the S bank of Altigoukie Burn is difficult to discern in situ. My route can be viewed on Altigoukie Burn Cairn and Burnt Mound.

Altarnun Cross B
Date Added: 14th Jun 2023
Site Type: Ancient Cross
Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 9th Jun 2023. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 3 Access 5

Altarnun Cross B submitted by dooclay on 11th Apr 2023. The Cross is built into a wall just past the first right leaving Altanun towards Fowey Moor
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: The Short Cross is located c. 500 yards N of Altarnun at the start of a narrow lane leading to Tresibbett. I had to clear away vegetation to find the broken cross head embedded in the base of a stone wall.
Allt Sgiathaig
Date Added: 25th Apr 2025
Site Type: Chambered Cairn
Country: Scotland (Sutherland)
Visited: Yes on 3rd Sep 2021. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 4 Access 4

Allt Sgiathaig submitted by markj99 on 9th Sep 2021. Elevated view of Allt Sgiathaig Cairn from E.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: Allt Sgiathaig Cairn is located on a knoll c. 5 yards E of A894 on the NC500. The W arc of the cairn has been truncated by road improvement. The tussocky cairn has a jumble of stones round a ruined central cist. Perhaps its better to visit in winter or spring when the NC500 will be less busy and there will be less ferns on the cairn.
Allt nan Uamh Bone Caves
Date Added: 7th Apr 2021

Allt nan Uamh Bone Caves submitted by freedomandpeace on 6th Feb 2014. Entrance to one of caves
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: The Bone Caves are set at the base of Creag nan Uamh in a spectacular highland glen. All of the discoveries have been removed to museums so it requires some imagination to reconstruct the caves as they were discovered. The impressive nature of the site more than makes up for this.
Allanfearn
Date Added: 26th Jul 2025
Site Type: Chambered Cairn
Country: Scotland (Highlands)
Visited: Yes on 21st Mar 2012. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 3 Access 4

Allanfearn submitted by TimPrevett on 31st Oct 2006. "Allanfearn" Chambered Cairn taken as the Rapsons bus whizzes along the A96. RCAHMS appears not to list it, so any more info appreciated.

Log Text: Culloden Cairn is a ruined cairn c. 25 yards NW of the A96 near Allanfearn Farm. The obvious feature of the cairn is an erect square pillar c. 5 feet high on the S Arc. There is a jumble of large recumbent stones on the grassy surface, possibly field clearance stones.

Date Added: 2nd Oct 2023
Site Type: Multiple Stone Rows / Avenue
Country: France (Bretagne:Morbihan (56))

Alignement de Kerloquet submitted by aolson on 24th Jul 2020. The central groomed portion of the alignment
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: Alignement de Kerloquet (Manio) is somewhat underwhelming. Best viewed from the Old Windmill these stones rows appear to be the E End of Alignement de Kerlmario tailling off to small stones. It is much more rewarding to follow signs to the Geant du Manio.

Achnancarranan
Date Added: 4th Apr 2021
Site Type: Stone Row / Alignment
Country: Scotland (Isle of Islay)
Visited: Yes on 19th Aug 2019. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 5 Access 3
Achnancarranan submitted by SandyG on 5th Jan 2018. View from the south west (Scale 1m). Views to the north are restricted by rocky outcrops.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: Achnancarranan Stone Row is one of several sites on or near the track which lead N out of the track beside Lagavulin Car Park. Lagavulin, Druim Mor, Achnancarranan and Ballynaughton can all be accessed from this point for a c. 3 mile walk mostly on a farmtrack. I did encounter the problem of Beef Cattle occupying Lagavulin Stone and the track through the field.

Log Text: There are some sites which are overwhelming. There is too much to see on just one visit. The wealth of rock art on display at Achnabreck almost requires a revisit to appreciate how special it is.
Achmore

Log Text: Achmore Stone Circle resembles more a work in progress than a complete stone circle. It takes a leap of imagination to construct a megalithic site from multiple fallen stones.
