Log Text: Brevig includes a handsome standing stone and a nearby broken recumbent stone. It is sited on the slopes above Brevig close to a derelict building. Look out for a cup mark at c. 3ft on the E face of the standing stone.

Log Text: Borve Standing Stones are close to a beach track at the small community of Borve. Dun Bharpa is accessed via Borve, a worthwhile detour up to a large almost intact cairn.

Log Text: Balnacraig Cairn is on Barra, an idyllic small island in the Outer Hebrides. Balnacraig is a ruined chambered cairn on a knoll at the foot of Grianan, a substantial hill. Balnacraig Cairn has been extensively robbed leaving all but a scatter of stones and a collapsed chamber formed by large stones. The location is perhaps more impressive than the cairn itself.
A better preserved cairn Dun Bharpa can be found c. 0.5 mile NNW. I found it convenient to visit both cairns in the same trip.

Log Text: I visited Druids Circle (Penmaenmawr) on a walk from Penmaenmawr to Llanfairfechan. It was the highlight of my trip. It is a beautiful stone circle in an amazing location.

Log Text: A narrow road winds up into the Welsh hills from Tal-y-bont (Conwy) on the B5106 signed for Llanbedr-y-cennin. Stay straight on this narrow lane for c. 4 miles to reach a Car Park at SH 7206 7153.
Bwlch y Ddeufaen standing stones are c. 0.5 miles from here along the Roman Road. Both stones are impressive however the distance between them and the dissimilarity of shape suggests to me that they are individual way markers rather than paired stones. There are several cairns nearby which lend weight to this theory.

Log Text: A narrow road winds up into the Welsh hills from Tal-y-bont (Conwy) on the B5106 signed for Llanbedr-y-cennin. Stay straight on this narrow lane for c. 3 miles to reach a 90 degree bend at Cae Coch. It is possible to park on the corner otherwise walk back from the nearest passing place. Follow the track E for c. 0.33 miles to see Cae Coch Standing Stone in the field on the L.
This c. 7 foot stone is one of many ancient sites in the area.

Bryn Celli Ddu submitted by ericgrindle on 22nd Feb 2015. The Site is clearly signposted and only a short walk from the road. It is considered to be one of the finest passage tombs in Wales, The series of photographs will show the entrance, the main passage and chamber. The access to the main chamber being via a tunnel, the sides of which consist of large vertical slabs topped by substantial stone lintels.

Log Text: There is a balance to be struck in restoring an ancient site. Sites such as Newgrange seem in my eyes to be over-restored losing some of their original character. The restoration of Bryn Celli Ddu on the other hand has been sympathetic allowing it to retain an air of antiquity.

Log Text: The S cairn with the hollowed out summit, resembling the cone of a volcano, is the highlight of this cluster of sites. There are fine views of Moelfre and beyond from this location.

Log Text: I visited Cerrig Pryfaid Stone Circle en route to the cairns and standing stones at Bwlch y Ddeufaen. The stones are relatively small and there are significant gaps but it is located adjacent to the path so why not visit.

Log Text: Hwylfa’r Ceirw Stone Alignment was one of my rare accidental finds. While exploring a ruined footprint of a building on Great Orme my eye was drawn to the S Terminus of the stone row. I followed it downhill towards Marine Drive. The majority of the stones in the row are small however it is a significant presence in its landscape.

Log Text: West Kennet Avenue is one of my favourite sites. Unlike Avebury stone circles it is not surrounded by modernity. One can easily imagine a ceremonial procession up West Kennet Avenue leading to the majesty of Avebury Stone Circles.
