Log Text: Clach a' Charra Standing Stone is erected in a stone refuge on the S side of the A949 c. 200 yards W of the junction with Ospisdale House Drive. It is difficult to park up safely close to the stone.

Log Text: The Eagle Stone is located at the end of a short signed path on the NE end of Strathpeffer. The carved Pictish Stone, dated to the 7th C. has bold carvings of a large horseshoe above a walking eagle.

Log Text: The Pictish Stone at the small settlement of Tote is only 5 miles NW of Portree. It is accessed via the A87 NW of Portree, turning left onto the A850 Dunvegan. After 1.3 miles turn right for Peinmore/Tote. Stay on the narrow road for c. 0.3 mile to reach the left dead end turn for Tote. Clach Ard is c. 350 yards W of the junction on the right enclosed by a wooden fence.

Log Text: Edderton Pictish Symbol Stone has a boldly carved salmon above a traditional double disc & Z rod carving. The standing stone which bears the carvings is thought to date to the Bronze Age according to Canmore ID 14653.

Log Text: It is possible to park up at NG 5947 2006 on the B8083. Walk c. 130 yards W to a junction with Kilbride House Private Road. Walk c. 130 yards down the private road to Kilbride House. There is a gateway on the right leading into a field. Walk W into the field for c. 50 yards then NW for 50 yards towards the standing stone near two trees.

Log Text: There is a passing place at NN 8952 3051 on the A822 to park up carefully. There is a gateway E of the passing place into a rough field. Clach Ossian is c. 90 yards N of the gate.

Log Text: When I visited Clach Stei Lin Stone Circle I was not aware of Canmore's classification of the site. I assumed it was a single standing stone and viewed it accordingly. If you visit be sure to make a careful search of stones to the S of the standing stone.

Log Text: When visiting an island for perhaps the only time, it is important to research all the available sites and prioritise the best sites to visit in a limited time. Cladh Hallan Settlement is easy to access with good info boards. The central round house is the best preserved.

Log Text: When I visited Cladh Maolrithe Standing Stone I was on my way to the Callanish sites. This stone was an unplanned detour so I was not aware of the complexities of the site. Canmore suggests that this is the location of an old chapel and burial ground.

Log Text: I visited North Uist on a Calmac Hopscotch trip to the Inner Hebrides. My itinerary was as follows: Oban to Barra (ferry), Barra to Eriskay (ferry), Eriskay to South Uist (causeway), South Uist to Benbecula (causeway), Benbecula to North Uist (causeway), North Uist to Berneray (causeway), Berneray to Harris (ferry), Harris to Lewis (road), Lewis to Ullapool (ferry). I would recommend this route to anyone wishing to explore the Inner Hebrides by car.
It is easy to find Clach an t-Sagairt once you are on North Uist. Clachan Sands is on the B893, c. 3.2 miles S of the Berneray Causeway between North Uist & Berneray Take the signed Clachan Sands Cemetary turn. After c. 130 yards it is possible to park up carefully at the entrance to Clachan Lodge. Walk 100 yards NW along the road then head N through machair grass for c. 60 yards to reach Clach an t-Sagairt Inscribed Stone.

Log Text: Claughreid Stone Circle is difficult to locate due to its remote location over difficult ground. I was unwilling to trudge through boggy moorland so I devised an easier route via a track to Claughreid Farm: Turn off the A75 for Cairn Holy at NX 5164 5305. Follow the sign for Cairn Holy for c. 100 yards then bear right onto an unsigned single track road. Stay on this winding lane for c. 0.4 miles to reach an unsigned track on the left at NX 5207 5313. Follow this dead-end track for a mile to reach a small car park at the end: the track becomes increasingly rough and dirty closer to the end.
The walking route to Claughreid Stone Circle starts at the end of the public road from Barholm Farm to Claughreid Farm. Park up and walk along the track to Claughreid Farm. Head W through Claughreid Farm then head downhill. Cross over a ford then follow the track through a dry stane dyke. Continue NW for c. 300 yards to go through a gate in the dry stane dyke. Head NNE from the gateway on vague tracks for c. 100 yards to reach Claughreid Stone Circle, partially obscured in moorland. My walking route along this track can be viewed on Claughreid Stone Circle.
