Log Text: I can never resist a standing stone on the horizon as I am driving. I will either investigate there and then or make a mental note to search for the stone later. In this case I was able to park up c. 500 yards NW of the stone at SW 3961 3310, adjacent to a track which led to Boswens Menhir. It is not a spectacular standing stone, however a 15 minute walk while driving is good exercise.

Bosullow Quoit

Bosullow Quoit

Bosullow Quoit submitted by JimChampion on 12th Sep 2006. The granite capstone of this stylised quoit sculpture rests on three stubby uprights.

Log Text: I have driven past this many times since my first encounter in 21.03.13. It may be small but it captures the unique spirit of antiquity that makes Cornwall special.

Bosporthennis Quoit

Bosporthennis Quoit

Bosporthennis Quoit submitted by ocifant on 13th Mar 2004. Bosporthennis (pronounced Bosprennis) Quoit
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Bosporthennis Quoit is one of the more unusual quoits, sat on a small mound. There is a large open chamber on top of the mound. A capstone on the quoit has been carved into a millstone but left in situ.

Boslow Cross

Date Added: 29th May 2021
Site Type: Ancient Cross Country: England (Cornwall)

Boslow Cross

Boslow Cross submitted by JimChampion on 24th Oct 2007. August 2007. The southern side of the Boslow Cross, alongside a grassy path.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Boslow Cross has the appearance of a dressed stone rather than a standing stone. I would err on the side of it being a parish boundary stone rather than a prehistoric stone.

Boskenna Cross

Date Added: 30th May 2021
Site Type: Ancient Cross Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 20th Mar 2013. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 5

Boskenna Cross

Boskenna Cross submitted by enkidu41 on 15th Nov 2004. The shot shows the principal face of the cross with its depiction of Christ. The three-part base is out of all proportion to the cross. The look of stability is deceptive given its three damaging brushed with modern traffic!

Log Text: I parked in the lay-by adjacent to Boskenna Cross for the path to Boscawen-Ros E.

Boskednan stone circle

Date Added: 14th Dec 2022
Site Type: Stone Circle Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 15th Oct 2013. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 5 Access 2

Boskednan stone circle

Boskednan stone circle submitted by JimChampion on 22nd Aug 2005. The portal stones illuminated by the last rays of the setting sun. The tallest one (on the left) has a diagonal groove present on this and the opposite side. The holes that the restored stones were raised from have been covered with pegged down foliage, presumably to encourage regrowth on the bare earth.

Log Text: Boskednan stone circle's isolated location and the impressive height of the stones amplify the gravitas of this monument.

Boskednan A

Date Added: 30th May 2021
Site Type: Cairn Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 15th Oct 2013. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 5 Access 3

Boskednan A

Boskednan A submitted by AngieLake on 15th Oct 2004. This view of the 'destroyed barrow'/cairn near Carn Galva, shows its alignment with Ding Dong mine on the horizon. Boskednan circle is on slightly lower ground not far from here, and on an alignment between the 'barrow'/cairn and the mine building. The flat sides of the pointed stones face north/south. (This pic was taken at 4pm in March 2004). The stones sit on a higher ridge at 227m.

Log Text: Boskednan A Kerbed Cairn is easily visited on the way to Nine Maidens of Boskednan. There are intermittent kerb stones round the cairn up to 4 feet tall. As a starter before the Nine Stones of Boskednan it is very satisfying.

Log Text: There is a lay-by c. 250 yards NW of Boscawen Noon farm. The unusually triangular standing stone is embedded into the hedge on the R side of the farm track.

Boscawen-Ros West

Boscawen-Ros West submitted by maengurta on 13th Apr 2007. One of a pair of menhirs at Boscawen ros. This one in a hedge about 7 ft tall.

Log Text: I managed to locate this stone, incorporated in a hedge on the W margin of the field, c. 60 yards WSW of Boscawen-Ros E Standing Stone.

Boscawen-Ros East

Boscawen-Ros East

Boscawen-Ros East submitted by enkidu41 on 3rd Mar 2004. A 2.6m square-sectioned stone, one of a pair. Its smaller partner was knocked down early in 20th century. SW 4281 2394
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Boscawen-Ros East is easily visited from the lay-by at Boskenna Cross. I followed the right of way path and found the large menhir in the middle of some cabbages. I skirted round the field to find the other menhir incorporated into the hedge at SW42782393. I was convinced that the hedge was built round this standing stone. The second stone is around 100 yards W of the visible stone. There is an interesting capstone shaped stone at SW42872395 on the eastern edge of the field, around 150 yards E of the visible menhir.

Boscawen Un

Log Text: There is a signed footpath to Boscawen-Un Stone Circle from Boscawen Noon Farm. The circle is set in its own private enclosure protecting it from harm. There is an unusual altar stone leaning at c. 40 degrees in the centre of the circle.

Borvemore submitted by Tom_Bullock on 9th Feb 2005. Photo used by kind permission of Tom Bullock. More details of this location are to be found on his Stone Circles and Rows CD-ROM
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: There are two recumbent stones c. 33 feet S of the standing stone leading to speculation that they were part of a stone circle featuring the sole standing stone. They too small and dissimilar to the standing stone to lend credence to this proposition. They are more likely to be field clearance stones.

Borve Stone Row

Date Added: 28th May 2021
Site Type: Stone Row / Alignment Country: Scotland (Isle of Skye)
Visited: Yes on 9th Aug 2011. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4

Borve Stone Row

Borve Stone Row submitted by Andy B on 24th Nov 2010. Borve Stone Row taken in about 1997
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: There is a slight curve to the 3 stones in this row lending some weight to the argument that they were once part of a stone circle. The construction of a road through a stone circle could have occurred in the past.

Borve Standing Stones

Log Text: Borve Standing Stones are close to a beach track at the small community of Borve. Dun Bharpa is accessed via Borve, a worthwhile detour up to a large almost intact cairn.

Borgarvirki

Borgarvirki

Borgarvirki submitted by KaiHofmann on 15th Apr 2010. Site in Iceland

Log Text: I was fortunate to visit Borgarvirki Fort on the cusp of Winter, a fresh layer of snow adding atmosphere to an impressive site. Although my visit predated Game of Thrones it seems to me that Borgarvirki could easily have been transported from the icy wastes beyond The Wall.

Boreland

Boreland

Boreland submitted by kelpie on 1st Oct 2003. NX 40580 68989 This relatively untouched horned long cairn lies in the woods north of Newton Stewart. This photo shows the two portal stones with the cairn heaped behind them.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Boreland Cairn features on a path round Knockman Wood located to the N of Minigaff. Despite its relative isolation the cairn was being robbed until 1882 when it was protected. The cairn is best visited in Spring or Autumn to avoid the ferns.

Bombie 3

Bombie 3

Bombie 3 submitted by SolarMegalith on 13th Oct 2016. A general view of Bombie 3 panel (photo taken on September 2016).
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Bombie 3 is easier to find than Bombie 2 due to its proximity to the pond fenced off in the NE corner of the field. Bombie 3 is located beside a gorse bush c. 10 yards N from the SW corner of the electric fence round the pond. The rock art panel is at the base of a gorse bush within several yards of the fence. There is a large cup and multiple rings marking centrally placed on a roughly triangular panel. Smaller fainter cup and ring markings in the bottom apexes are covered in turf. I left them covered to protect them.
