Log Text: Rorie Gill's Cairn is located c. 200 yards S of Drannandow Chambered Cairn in open moorland. The centre of the cairn has been robbed out leaving an exposed cist. There is a hollow in the SW arc which may be the remains of a second cist.
Drannandow S
Date Added: 2nd Sep 2025
Site Type: Cairn
Country: Scotland (Dumfries and Galloway)
Visited: Yes on 19th Jul 2021. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 4 Access 3

Drannandow S submitted by markj99 on 21st Jul 2021. Shepherd's Cairn in centre of Drannandow S Cairn viewed from S.

Log Text: It is a general rule of thumb that the impressiveness of a site is inversely proportional to the difficulty in reaching the site: Drannandow Chambered Cairn, a relatively well-preserved long cairn, is reached by a c. 2 mile walk along reasonable tracks and Drannandow S Cairn requires a further 600 yards detour S over rough moorland to a small grassy mound topped by a shepherds cairn.

Log Text: Despite the SW stone having fallen, the site still retains a significant presence. It's proximity to Drumtroddan Cup and Ring Marked Stones is convenient.
Twelve Apostles (Dumfries)
Date Added: 22nd Sep 2024
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Scotland (Dumfries and Galloway)
Visited: Yes on 28th Aug 2021. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 4

Twelve Apostles (Dumfries) submitted by Greengirl on 3rd Feb 2020. The complete circle taken from the east end of the field. It's such a large circle that it is difficult to fit it all in one photo!

Log Text: The scale of the Twelve Apostles Stone Circle is impressive. There are however obvious gaps in the circle and an assortment of stones which diminishes its gravitas. That said, it is obviously worth a small detour if you are passing through Dumfries.
Allt Sgiathaig
Date Added: 25th Apr 2025
Site Type: Chambered Cairn
Country: Scotland (Sutherland)

Allt Sgiathaig submitted by markj99 on 9th Sep 2021. Elevated view of Allt Sgiathaig Cairn from E.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: Allt Sgiathaig Cairn is located on a knoll c. 5 yards E of A894 on the NC500. The W arc of the cairn has been truncated by road improvement. The tussocky cairn has a jumble of stones round a ruined central cist. Perhaps its better to visit in winter or spring when the NC500 will be less busy and there will be less ferns on the cairn.
