Rorie Gill submitted by rogerkread : The cist-like feature. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Cairn in Dumfries and Galloway

This cairn is marked on OS maps just south west of Drunnandow chambered cairn. I have called it Napper's Cottage as that is nearby, to avoid confusion with other Drunnandow sites. It was clearly once a large round cairn but has had many of the stones moved, perhaps to aid with livestock in some way. Towards the centre is a cist-like feature covered by a flat stone (see photo), but it is doubtful that that is original.

Update July 2017: Canmore names this cairn Rorie Gill Cairn, so the page name has been changed to reflect this. See Canmore ID 63582. A visit report from 1976 reads: "The remains of a cairn measuring 14.0m in diameter and 1.0m high. The centre has been completely removed leaving a level interior 8.0m in diameter, in which there is a cist 1.1m by 0.8m by 0.6m high. In the S side of the cairn is a stone-filled depression that may have contained a second cist."

The Drannandow Chambered cairn, just north east of Napper's Cottage is at NX 4083 7135.
