Burghead Holy Well submitted by KiwiBetsy on 11th Dec 2004. Burghead Well is hidden behind a very high stone wall in King Street, where it narrows to a footpath only.
Through gaps in a locked gate you can see a neatly mown, sloping, empty section and the stone steps that lead underground. A notice tells you where to collect the key and signs detail the well's possible history. Twenty rock steps descend underground to where a barrel roof covers a chamber about 16 feet square. Log Text: Incredible site. Get the key from the visitor's centre, check its hours in advance. There is an info sign inside the gate. Walk about a dozen steps down into the well. A low metal barrier prevents physical entrance into the well, but the view is fine. The subterranian well may be the site of rituals and possibly executions by drowning. It is very dark, large, and spooky to the max! I highly recommend going.

St Fumac's Well submitted by KiwiBetsy on 8th Oct 2006. The well used to be at the foot of the manse garden but the building of the Drummuir to Mulben road means that it is now about 50 yards to the right of the road almost opposite a side road leading to the present church .... which is a convenient place to park.

It was hard to find in the quite soggy and bushy plant life - It looks like the area gets cut seasonally. If uncut, the plants in the area are very dense, with many stinging nettles, so wear long pants and sleeves!
Finding the well was a lovely reward to nearly an hour of searching. It is slightly Northeast from the google maps pin. The well is rich with algae and plants, and it *magically* healed a nettle sting. A very quiet and beautiful spot. I highly recommend reaching it by the Dufftown-Keith railway, which stops in Drummuir - its station is visible from the well.
