Nine Stones Close

Nine Stones Close submitted by funsize on 4th Jun 2007. Seen from the south with just a hint of sunshine illuminating the frozen landscape around the stones. The guardian oak tree is the perfect companion to the last remaining stones of what was once a much larger monument.

Hen Blas

Hen Blas submitted by guile on 9th Jan 2011. From the Reverend Skinner's book "Ten Day's Tour through the Isle of Anglesea, December, 1802. "This morning after breakfast the weather being tolerably fair we walked to Henblas in the parish of Llangristiolus in the expectation of seeing a Cromlech mentioned in our list... We here found three immense stones two of them above fifteen foot high and nearly the same in width standing upright in the ground and another of a flatter form leaning against them."

Presaddfed

Presaddfed submitted by pab on 25th Sep 2012. Presaddfed, September 2012 Timber support which features in most photos on Portal has now been removed, so the more southerly chamber looks even better. Delightful location - the walk over the field feels more like a procession, with the chambers looking more impressive all the time.

Coed Y Glyn Burial Chamber SH514817 Visited Thursday 28th September 2000 SW Benllech; this sad and sorry chamber is nearly covered with vegetation swallowed up! The pictures say it all, really. Accessed by a footpath, and the chamber is to the left.

Hendrefor submitted by TimPrevett on 3rd Jul 2002. Ucheldref Burial Chamber SH551773 Visited Thursday 28th September 2000 SE Pentraeth, off B5109 Pentraeth to Beaumaris road. Two huge piles of stones in a field, basically! Another example of the decay of ancient monuments sad, but one supposes inevitable in many cases. The waves and contours in the rocks on these two are quite interesting to look at.

Wansdyke

Wansdyke submitted by Thorgrim on 9th Jun 2005. Section of the Wansdyke where it crosses the road between Fyfield and Alton Priors. Wansdyke stretches for 45 miles from Bristol to Marlborough and can be walked for much of the way. As it is still quite high, it is free from 4x4 off road vandalism and can be a much pleasanter walk than the unfortunate and much abused Ridgeway.
