The triangular stone on the southern side, with a couple of its fellow stumps in the northern arc seen on the skyline. Pity about the china clay works.

Normangill Henge
Date Added: 30th May 2011
Site Type: Henge
Country: Scotland (South Lanarkshire)
Visited: Yes on 1st Jan 1989. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 5

Normangill Henge submitted by h_fenton on 30th Nov 2010. A Kite Aerial Photograph of Normangill Henge viewed from the north. The south (uphill) side of the henge is the most clearly visible here because the ground is generally poorly drained while the banks are well drained resulting in a difference in vegetation.
There are drainage ditches alongside the road which stop the water making a vegetation difference on the north (downhill) side of the road. The internal ditches of the henge seem to be more prominent on the northern side.

Log Text: Such a pity the road goes right through it, presumably the builders had no idea what it was. A lovely isolated location.

The Soldiers Trench
Date Added: 26th Jun 2013
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: England (Yorkshire (West))
Visited: Yes on 1st Sep 1988. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 3 Access 5

The Soldiers Trench submitted by andy_h on 4th May 2004. Also known as Brackenhall Green. Situated above Shipley Glen and overlooked by rock art on Baildon Moor to the north and east, this sad little circle lies near the road which destroyed a section of its northern end. It's hard to distinguish amongst the rock scatter and fallen stones, but a couple of (largely reconstructed) double arc settings give it away.

King Arthur's Hall submitted by AngieLake on 15th Jul 2005.
Blessed by lovely weather, my visit to this strange site was enhanced by the cloud of fluffy white bog cotton dancing in the breeze. This view looks diagonally back towards the entrance gate, with Roughtor behind me in the distance, at 38degs from the largest pointed stone near to the camera. Note the way the two large pointed stones stick up on the 'west' side of the site. The tallest of these aligns at 109degs with Roughtor. It struck me how much the three of them (with a shorter one bet...

Merry Maidens (Circle) submitted by JimChampion on 27th Oct 2006. August 2005. The Merry Maidens under fluffy white clouds. I rediscovered this photo and selectively manipulated the contrast so that you can now see the stones (previously they were too dark). I've uploaded a similar photo to Wikimedia Commons - they need pictures of ancient sites for use on free sites like Wikipedia.

Chun Quoit submitted by sem on 16th Jun 2005. The capstone and the horizon.
There is a theory that dolmens (or quoits as they are known in Cornwall) were not totally covered in earth but the capstones were left uncovered and were a copy of the horizon. I have manipulated the tones in this shot to show this, but no shapes have been altered.

Date Added: 7th Jun 2013
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 1st Jun 1987. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 2

Boskednan stone circle submitted by JimChampion on 22nd Aug 2005. The portal stones illuminated by the last rays of the setting sun. The tallest one (on the left) has a diagonal groove present on this and the opposite side. The holes that the restored stones were raised from have been covered with pegged down foliage, presumably to encourage regrowth on the bare earth.
