Kermario Dolmen

Date Added: 24th Jul 2020
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen Country: France (Bretagne:Morbihan (56))
Visited: Yes on 17th Jul 2020. My rating: Condition 5 Ambience 4 Access 5

Kermario Dolmen

Kermario Dolmen submitted by thecaptain on 18th Oct 2004. Kermario Dolmen, north of Carnac, Brittany. View of the Kermario Dolmen which is right at the southwest corner of the Kermario Alignements, and right in the corner of the road which skirts the site. This picture was taken in 1987 when people were free to wander amongst the stones as they pleased. The terrible erosion caused by all the visitors is only too obvious.

Kerzerho Alignements

Kerzerho Alignements submitted by ermine on 1st Jul 2004. Kerzerho Alignments Brittany, Morbihan 47.634690N 3.148402W GPS onsite You can still walk among the stones at Kerzerho (in 2002 at east) which are near Carnac but not quite so busy. Head up the D781 to Erdeven. You can park nearby, and from there you can also take the path to the large stones of the Table du Sacrifice

Log Text: Possibly the best site we visited during our days in the Carnac area. To be able to walk among the stones is amazing, and the connection with the Giants is a nice bonus. The piles of stones pushed aside to make the road bear interesting witness to another side of this area as well.

Log Text: Very interesting site. The question did come to mind as to how our ancestors dealt with the mosquitoes!

Log Text: Well worth the walk. We met quite a few people on the path, although we were the only car in the parking lot. Industrious walkers, those French!

Log Text: Surrounded by tall corn this year, the menhir was still visible and imposing from quite a distance.

La Roche Blanche

Date Added: 1st Aug 2020
Site Type: Round Cairn Country: France (Bretagne:Morbihan (56))
Visited: Yes on 19th Jul 2020. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 3 Access 3

La Roche Blanche

La Roche Blanche submitted by TheCaptain on 2nd Jun 2007. This is a nice shining white quartz block within a circle of local schist stones. It is thought to probably mark the grave of an individual, rather than being a collective grave.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Just what it says, a white rock. It is however nicely tended, and when we were there in July it was surrounded by blooming shrubs.

La Table des Marchands

Date Added: 27th Jul 2020
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen Country: France (Bretagne:Morbihan (56))

La Table des Marchands

La Table des Marchands submitted by JJ on 9th Nov 2002. La Table des Marchands

Log Text: Extensively rebuilt, so it is hard to know how much of it is actually original, but it gives one interpretation of what something like this may have looked like when built.

La Table du Sacrifice

Date Added: 27th Jul 2020
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen Country: France (Bretagne:Morbihan (56))
Visited: Yes on 18th Jul 2020. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 5 Access 4

La Table du Sacrifice

La Table du Sacrifice submitted by LizH on 6th Nov 2007. In this picture, the furthest north stone (lying) can be seen. Behind it, however, at the back of the picture, this stone looks more as if it could be a 'table' and even possibly a 'sacrifice table' in the minds of those who named it. I am not sure which one is the official 'Table du sacrifice'.

Log Text: Spectacular array of menhirs leading to (or from) the alignments. One of the best group of megaliths in the Carnac area.

Log Text: On the way to Weyland's Smithy, stopped by this group to see our first barrow in Britain. Peaceful setting, and a nice taste of what was to come in Wiltshire. Would have like more time to be able to explore the different barrow types here.

Lande de Rousse

Date Added: 1st Aug 2020
Site Type: Standing Stones Country: France (Bretagne:Morbihan (56))
Visited: Yes on 19th Jul 2020. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 3 Access 3

Lande de Rousse

Lande de Rousse submitted by TheCaptain on 2nd Jun 2007. Deep into the forest is what looked to me to be a row of fallen menhirs, with one large rock still protruding from the ground. It wouldn't surprise me if there was another row here, like some of those at the nearby Pierres Droites, or perhaps something like La Pièce Couverte.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: We found another row running roughly NE / SW at 47.88779, -2.20002, so it may be part of the same alignment as The Captain said.

Laténium Museum

Trip No.14  Date Added: 19th Oct 2019

Visited: Yes on 20th Apr 2019. My rating: Condition 5 Ambience 5 Access 5

Laténium Museum

Laténium Museum submitted by neolithique02 on 11th Oct 2011. Allée couverte of Auvernier, reconstructed in front of the museum. Site in Neuenburg Switzerland
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Spectacular setting. The reconstructions and relocations in the grounds are as impressive as the interior of the museum. Some of the items could use more thorough explanations. (For example, the names of the Auvernier Dolmen, the Columbier round cairn, and the undecorated menhir from Bauvaix are not given). Information in English would also be helpful for visitors from further afield.

Le Tribunal

Le Tribunal submitted by AlexHunger on 21st Sep 2004. "Le Tribunal" Cromlech at St. Just, viewed from North. The nearest stone was displaced to make room for the path. 9 Stones survive. The site is pointed to the east an there is an "Aiming Stone" to the east, which points at the Chateau Bu.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Hard to imagine that they would remove several stones to put in a path so the tourists could see the megalithic structures!
