Fernworthy stone row SE

Fernworthy stone row SE submitted by SandyG on 28th Sep 2014. Tiny stones protruding through the turf make this row difficult to photograph. A useful reminder however that many rows include stones which would have required very little effort to move and raise. This does not detract from their significance although it is perhaps remarkable that they have survived so well for so long.

Cosdon Hill Cairn Circle

Cosdon Hill Cairn Circle submitted by TheCaptain on 10th Jun 2004. Cosdon Hill Cairn Circle, Dartmoor, Devon SX643916 On a flatter shelf of land on the eastern side of Cosdon Hill are the splendid remains of a cairn and treble stone row. The remains of the cairn at the uphill end of the rows is approx 8 metres in diameter, and has been substantially messed about with. Despite this, there are the clear remains of a double cist in the centre of the cairn, the downhill one of which still has its capstone largely in place. Several stones also remain in place...

I have tried to mark out the various sites. In the background is the Butterdon Hill to Piles Hill ridge with its enormous number of sites. Again, I have tried to mark out the various rows and features which would be seen in this view.
