Woodhenge (Wiltshire) submitted by sem on 7th Sep 2015. Woodhenge -The Model
One picture taken of a 3D model conceived during a wet weekend. Projects like this can reveal previously unseen features.
I would point out that the henge itself is now thought to have been built after the timbers decayed.

Log Text: These two stones are situated just off the main A39 road near to the top of Porlock Hill. They can be accessed by a short walk from the nearby parking layby and the white stones stand out clearly against the heather moorland. The site is spectacularly situated with fine view across Exmoor and out to sea. They are not signed and I get the impression they are not well known and are often overlooked. But the Whitstones are well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Log Text: Wayland's Smithy is well preserved Severn-Cotswold long barrow which enjoys a delightful setting amidst a small plantation of trees. The approach along the ridgeway makes for a fine prelude and a visit can also be combined with a visit to Uffington Castle and White Horse. The large stones at the front of the barrow make for an impressive sight, and the chambers in the barrow are also accessible. Wayland's Smithy is well known site so can become busy, so it is worth visiting 'off-season'. However a visit is always rewarding whevener you go.

Log Text: This site is easily accessible by road, as the road was actually built across part of it. Still well worth a visit and recognisable as a Barrow, although sadly most people driving past (through?) it will have no idea it is there!
